Privacy Policy

OVERVIEW

MTN Profile (“we,” “us”) operates mtnprofile.com. This policy explains what information we collect, why we collect it, and how we handle it. We keep things straightforward — no legalese walls.

WHAT WE COLLECT

We collect information you provide directly when you create and use your profile:

  • Account details (name, email, password)
  • Profile information (skills, experience, certifications, activity history)
  • Location data you choose to share (home range, trip areas)
  • Messages exchanged with other users on the platform

We also automatically collect basic usage data: pages visited, device type, browser, and IP address. This helps us keep the site running well and understand how people use it.

HOW WE USE IT

Your information is used to:

  • Create and display your backcountry profile
  • Match you with compatible partners based on skills and experience
  • Send you relevant notifications (trip matches, messages, safety alerts)
  • Improve the platform based on aggregate usage patterns

We don't sell your personal information. We don't use it for advertising. Your data exists to make the platform work for you.

PROFILE VISIBILITY

Your profile information (skills, experience level, certifications) is visible to other MTN Profile users — that's the point of the platform. Your email address and exact location are never shown publicly. You control what appears on your profile and can adjust visibility in your settings at any time.

COOKIES

We use cookies to keep you logged in and remember your preferences. We also use analytics cookies to understand site usage in aggregate. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies from third parties.

THIRD PARTIES

We share data only with service providers that help us run the platform (hosting, email delivery, analytics). These providers are contractually required to protect your information and can only use it to provide services to us. We may also disclose information if required by law.

DATA SECURITY

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit. Passwords are hashed and never stored in plain text. That said, no system is perfectly secure — we encourage you to use a strong, unique password for your account.

YOUR CHOICES

You can:

  • Update or correct your profile information at any time
  • Delete your account and associated data by contacting us
  • Opt out of non-essential emails through your notification settings
  • Request a copy of your data

CHANGES TO THIS POLICY

If we make meaningful changes to this policy, we'll notify you by email or through a notice on the site before the changes take effect.
